Ayurvedic Perspective about the Indigestion

In the Ayurvedic perspective, indigestion is described as ‘’Agnimandya’’, which literally translates to the decline of the digestive fire or Agni. An intermediate level of Agni is necessary for good digestion. Indigestion is a condition whereby the doshas, Pitta, and Vata dosha are disproportionately produced, causing digestive disorders.

Causes of Indigestion as per Ayurveda

  • Diet: Ingestion of certain prohibited foods, taking too much and taking food at the the wrong time of the day.
  • Lifestyle: Day-to-day inactivity, high stress levels and poor sleeping pattern.
  • Emotional Factors: Some of the feelings that may be caused by Schizophrenia; Anxiety, anger, and grief often lead to stress and indigestion because the person’s focus and attention gets diverted on external issues.
